TITLE: Things I Wish I Had Known (Before I Graduated)

ABSTRACT:
Reflecting upon his time at graduate school (Carnegie Mellon), industry research labs (HP, Intel), startups (Maginatics), and larger technology firms (EMC, Cisco), Dr. Niraj Tolia will give the talk he wishes he had heard before he graduated. Drawing upon his career experiences and those of others, he will talk about lessons learned that would have allowed him to accelerate his career while avoiding early career pitfalls. Using a combination of personal experience and input from his peers, he hopes this talk will benefit anyone that is looking to make a career in technology. While the talk will cover everything from industry research labs to startups, the goal is to cover the common themes that will help in whatever career you select after graduation.
