Yest we considered firewire and where impressed by the SCSI serial bus as one of the better SCSI mappings. It has a great RDMA mechanism and a lean architecture. Unfortunately it is not IP and the community of users is more restricted. I'm not suggesting you take the time and energy, now, to do this on the reflector. I understand that there MIGHT be other considerations that affect preferred medium choice for prototype implementations. But if you take the time to independently inspect P1394b, I think you might find its cost / performance characteristics suitable.
