I think this is not an interesting path to go down. The most common network booting techniques are to either embed the code necessary to acquire the boot sectors into the PROM of the system (iSCSI) or to use TFTP to download a piece of code that contains the code necessary to acquire the boot sectors. Both mechanisms are valid and are commonly used. In either case, DHCP should provide an address that specifies which device the system is to be booted from. In the TFTP case, DHCP also must provide the name of the file containing the code necessary to acquire the boot sectors which typically will also contact DHCP to find the address of the boot device. -David
