If there are no target vendors/implementors calling this a problem, why solve it? I'm very doubtful that is kosher. That's how MAC address assignment and FC WWNs work - vendors must develop internal schemes for assuring uniqueness beyond their vendor numbers. Why should this be any more difficult?
