All very good points by the way, let me just add this: Can we please prohibit decimal representations starting with 0, because an outsider would naturally assume that they are octal? Even strtoul (with 0 base) would treat them as octal. I know this isn't terribly important, but it would just make the specification a tiny bit clearer. If we can't, I would like to see a big warning that numberical values described by 0[0-9]+ are decimal and _not_ octal. Thanks, Martins Krikis, Intel Corp.
