RAID Controller API

I know this question is not about iSCSI, but thought perhaps someone 
might have
a pointer or two....

I'm looking for any work (papers) on the subject of ATA RAID Controller API.
ie ATA RAID Controller vendors providing some API for OEMs to develop
or integrate their own Controller Management Software ...
