TITLE: The Open Platform of Tencent and Large-scale System Design
ABSTRACT:
Tencent is the largest internet company in China, with more than 700 million monthly active users, and more than 170 million peak time concurrent users. Tencent Cloud is the largest public cloud systems in China. It is used by company's such as Zynga, EA Sports, Popcat and thousands of other internet software developers. More than 200 million users use applications hosted on the Tencent Cloud. Tencent Cloud provides a comprehensive set of cloud services, including virtual machines, SQL and Non-SQL cloud storage, security, monitoring, data analysis, scaling, testing and other services. Yet, it was built in rapid speed. Tencent started building the cloud in Dec. 2010, and had its first set of customers in Jan. 2011. The Chief architect of Tencent Cloud, Lei Chen, will share its architecture, including detailed design of its elastic engine, memory and SSD based storage system, network isolation and QOS system etc., combined with the principles and practices that made the system a success.
BIO:
Mr. Lei Chen is a general manager of Tencent Inc., one of the largest internet companies in China. He manages the department of Open Platform and the department of Cloud Computing. Tencent Open Platform is the largest of its kind in China. The platform allows application developers to reach users through various Tencent's social, communication and media platforms, including Qzone, Q+, Tencent Weibo(twitter), QQ Games, Pengyou(friends) Network. In slightly over a year, more than 300,000 application developers are building applications for Tencent Open Platform, they've obtained more than 4 billion installs, and more than 200 million users are using applications on the platform monthly, generating a total income of more than 600 million RMB. Tencent Cloud Computing provides cloud storage, elastic engine, cloud security, and big data processing services to application developer. Mr. Lei Chen also manages the technical aspect of Tencent Social Advertising system.
Before joining Tencent, Lei worked for Trilogy, Microsoft, and Google, creating data storage, web conferencing, and e-commerce applications. Lei holds a master's degree in computer science from University of Texas at Austin, and a MS degree in computer science and engineering from Tsinghua University.
