NOTE SPECIAL DAY -- TUESDAY
DATE: Tuesday, December 3, 2019
TIME: 12:00 - 1:00 pm
PLACE: RMCIC Panther Hollow Conference Room, 4th Floor
SPEAKER: Hideaki Kimura, Oracle
TITLE: Introduction to NVM Direct
ABSTRACT:
This talk gives an overview of Oracle NVM Direct, an open source implementation of a C API to simplify application development for byte addressable Non Volatile Memory. NVM Direct consists of two major components, namely:
- A precompiler that converts a source file containing C extensions for NVM to a standard C source file.
- A runtime library to implement NVM regions, heaps, locks, and transactions. Some of the functions are called by code inserted by the precompiler, and some are called by the application code.
BIO:
Hideaki Kimura is a database programmer working on NVM databases at Oracle. He previously worked for Hewlett-Packard Labs where he developed FOEDUS, a transactional storage engine for a thousand cores and NVM. He has a Ph.D. from Brown University.
