It would be a courtesy for people to set Black> their mailers to default to plain text (e.g., mine is set that Black> way, hence this message), but I see no cause to ban or Black> actively discourage it on this list. I feel differently. At one time I had HTML enabled in my mail reader. I changed it so that it refuses to interpret "HTML". I ran into too many mail messages created by certain mailers from certain vendors that produce grossly proprietary weird syntax and pretend it is HTML. Such messages produce ugly garbage, consume excessive CPU time in the mail reader, or otherwise create a nuisance. So for this reason my mail reader now always uses the plaintext flavor of the message if it is available. If a mail message ONLY offers an HTML form, it is usually spam. On the rare occasions when it isn't, I may try to look at it but I would really prefer not to. As far as I can see, there is NO reason for sending HTML to lists such as this one, and many reasons (including, for example, effective operation of the archiver system) to avoid it. paul _______________________________________________ Ips mailing list Ips@ietf.org https://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/ips
